Community center interior upgrade
Renovation of a neighborhood community center’s meeting rooms, multipurpose hall and administrative spaces to better support diverse programming—classes, events and civic gatherings. The brief emphasizes accessibility, safety, adaptable interiors and resilient finishes to withstand frequent public use. The aim is to create inclusive, welcoming spaces that are easy to maintain and straightforward to reconfigure.
PROJECT CONCEPT
The design approach makes everyday adaptability the organizing principle: large halls use operable partitions and modular furniture to shift from a single event mode to multiple simultaneous activities. Entrances and circulation paths are reworked for universal access and clear wayfinding. Finishes are selected for robustness and ease of repair, while acoustic treatments and diffused lighting make multipurpose rooms comfortable for presentations, rehearsals and community classes. Storage is integrated to keep equipment out of sight but readily deployable, and MEP upgrades prioritize energy efficiency and reliable ventilation for heavy occupancy. The result is a civic facility that supports a wide programmatic range with minimal friction and predictable lifecycle costs.
