Compact urban studio redesign

An interior refresh and space-optimization project for compact studio dwellings, aimed at maximizing usable area, storage capacity and perceived spaciousness. The brief addresses integrated furniture solutions, improved daylighting and efficient plumbing/electrical reconfiguration to support a higher quality of everyday living in constrained footprints. The project emphasizes simplicity, low cost interventions with high user impact and solutions that can be replicated across multiple units.

PROJECT CONCEPT

The concept treats each studio as a micro-apartment with layered functional zones rather than a single undifferentiated room. Built-in elements—folding beds, integrated wardrobes, concealed appliances and compact work niches—are designed to perform multiple functions and free up floor area during peak activities. Visual strategies (light neutrals, reflective surfaces and consistent sightlines) amplify daylight penetration, while a considered lighting plan creates distinct moods for cooking, working and sleeping. MEP improvements focus on consolidating services to a single wall to minimize invasive plumbing/electrical work. The result is a calm, efficient micro-home that feels larger than its dimensions through smart detailing and quality joinery.

  • Bespoke built-ins and multipurpose furniture to free floor area.
  • Visual/light strategies to increase perceived spaciousness.
  • Consolidated services for economical retrofitting.
